Allayer provides technologies that enable the development of very high performance Optical Networks. From Media converters and Ethernet/Packet Over SONET (EOS/POS) devices to Optical Access and OC192/OC768 Switching Processors Allayer has high performance architectures to meet your needs.
Why Optical Networks?
Fiber has become the key transport medium in next generation networks. The reliability, reach, high performance and cost/performance of fiber has made it the technology of choice both in the internet and enterprise backbone and also increasingly in Local Area Networks (LAN), Metropolitan Area Networks (MAN) and at the Network edges. Until today, copper wiring has always been an easier, cheaper solution but as the aggregate data rate has increased to Gigabit and 10 Gigabit performances the value of fiber over copper as a transport medium has become clear. Gigabit Ethernet is the first standard that starts with fiber as its physical layer. At 2.5 Gigabit and 10 Gigabit performances fiber is the choice of medium.
Tomorrow's Network:
Today almost all voice traffic and much of the data traffic goes through a circuit switched Network to get to a packet switched network. This is cumbersome, expensive and offers a much lower quality of end to end communication.
Tomorrow your traffic will start of as packets, be transported through packet switched networks and will then go through a circuit switch. Much of tomorrows traffic may never see a circuit switch. With the emergence of voice over IP and new Internet edge boxes new IP centric networks are evolving that change the economics of communications transmission dramatically.
In the near future the convergence of 10 Gigabit Ethernet and OC192 (10Gigabits) brings together the Enterprise LAN/MAN Networks with the Internet WAN Network with the possibility of end to end connectivity using Ethernet and IP as the technologies of choice.
Allayer Accelerates the Deployment of Optical Networking
Allayer Communications has high bandwidth switching and packet processing technologies and expertise that will accelerate the design of high performance Optical Network systems. Allayer's technologies include:
Media Converters
Media converters that allow copper wiring systems to be connected to fiber systems. As new and old buildings have their LAN communications systems upgraded media converters play a significant role in enabling the 'reconfiguration, relocation and extension' of LAN systems. The result is a tremendous growth in the value of media converter equipment. Allayer's media converters are highly integrated for low cost and size with intelligence built in.
Ethernet Over SONET (EOS)/Packet Over SONET (POS)
Allayer's RoX-II architecture was designed to accommodate Ethernet Over SONET and Packet over SONET applications. There is an insatiable demand for Ethernet over SONET and Packet over SONET products to bridge the LAN/MAN and WAN edges. Allayer's Fast Ethernet and Gigabit Ethernet products and patented RoX architectures enable our customers to get to market faster than any other solutions offered on the market today.
Optical Access
Allayer's Optical access products will provide an easy, fast to market route for new systems providers to get to market. Targeted at access routers from the enterprise into ISPs and from ISPs into the Optical Network backbone, Allayer access products will change the economics of high performance routing systems.
OC-192 Packet Processing
Allayer's patented ORoX (Optical Ring Of Switches) architecture is targeted at high performance edge and backbone IP systems. Taking the concept of the RoX (Ring of Switches) architecture, successfully deployed in high bandwidth Ethernet switching systems, and applying it to the Optical Network segment, ORoX will accelerate the development of high bandwidth Optical switching and packet processing in the Internet infrastructure.
